Histories of Gestures
Based on the book 'Histoires de Gestes', each episode looks at the transformation of our gestures over time.
Standing, Falling, Sitting, Jumping, and Turning.
Each episode looks at the history, transformation, and interaction of these five gestures in different times and contexts, through a critical reading that exposes how political, social, and economic tensions intertwine with bodies.
Based on research in several archives, the series presents a collage of photographs, paintings, drawings, graphics, and internet memes with excerpts from films, videos, and choreographic works by artists from Brazil and elsewhere.
Histories of Gestures is a journey through some well-known - but rarely questioned - gestures. Based on the book 'Histoires de Gestes' by Isabelle Launay and Marie Glon, Publisher Actes Sud, Paris, 2012.
All episodes are available with portuguese or english subtitles.
