Guercoeur reborn at Opéra national du Rhin
A long-lost gem resurfaces! Stéphane Degout stars in Magnard's Guercœur. Unmissable revival from Metzmacher & Loy at Opéra du Rhin.
Experience a true rarity as the curtain rises on Albéric Magnard's Guercœur at the Opéra national du Rhin - the first French production of this Belle Époque masterpiece in over 90 years. The poignant tale of a freedom fighter's tragic fate, Guercœur was reconstructed from memory after its score's destruction when the idealistic composer defied German soldiers in 1914, paying with his life.
Now, this long-overlooked opera receives new life under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher and visionary direction of Christoph Loy. An exceptional French cast led by Stéphane Degout in the title role brings Magnard's enchanting music to the stage once more.
ARTE Concert presents this remarkable revival as a European wide video-on-demand from 25 May 2024. Available with subtitles in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish.
