From "Encuadre Iberoamericano to the World
From Hollywood to Asia, Leonardo García and Fernanda Solórzano invite us to travel hand in hand with Ibero-American filmmakers through global cinema.
In July’s edition of Encuadre Iberoamericano, Leonardo García-Tsao and Fernanda Solórzano explore the work of Ibero-American filmmakers in foreign industries around the world, from the traditional formulas of Hollywood to the more experimental European and Asian lenses.
Many of these directors, unlike locals, begin their career abroad from immigration, it is through the experience of working with genre films that highlights their style over many of the local directors. Of all of them, the trio of Mexican filmmakers Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro González Iñárritu, is regarded as the most successful set of Ibero-American filmmakers of commercial and critically praised films abroad.
The second half of the episode is dedicated to the winning films of the International Film Festivals of Huesca and Guadalajara, where Diego Luna received the City of Huesca Carlos Saura Award for his short film "Abel" and The Kingdom of God (2022) by Claudia Sainte -Luce dominated the charts.
The episode dedicates a section to emerging peruvian director Claudia Llosa, whose magical realism style has reflected in works like satirical Madeinusa (2005), Aloft (2014) and the film adaptation Fever Dream (2020). The dedication of these filmmakers in unlikely genres and industries places them as versatile creators in the global sphere.
It was broadcasted by TV UNAM on 2 July both on television and online and is available for streaming.
