MusikTheater an der Wien: "Der Prozess" now on DVD
The acclaimed production of Gottfried von Einem’s opera, staged by Stefan Herheim at the Kammeroper is now released on DVD.
The new DVD of Gottfried von Einem’s “Der Prozess” at the Theater an der Wien is now available.
The production was presented in the MusikTheater an der Wien at the Kammeroper, directed by Stefan Herheim, who approaches Kafka’s world with a sense of precision and quiet unease. His staging follows Josef K. through a reality that seems to shift with every step he takes, a world that mirrors the strange clarity and the unsettling logic of Kafka’s novel.
The musical direction lies with Walter Kobéra, who leads the Klangforum Wien PPCM Academy.
In the center of the play stands Robert Murray as Josef K., confronted with an accusation that remains unexplained and yet governs everything around him. Anne‑Fleur Werner appears as Die Frau, Alexander Grassauer as Franz, Der Fabrikant and Der Geistliche, Timothy Connor as Willem and the Advokat, Leo Mignonneau as Der Aufseher and Der Kanzleidirektor, Valentino Blasina as Der Student, Titorelli and the first young man, Lukas Karzel as the Gerichtsdiener, Der Passant and the second young man, and Philipp Schöllhorn as the Untersuchungsrichter, Onkel Albert and the third young man. Fabian Tobias Huster appears as Kafka.
Von Einem’s opera, first performed in 1953, captures the tension of Kafka’s text with pulsating rhythms, repeating musical patterns and a sound world that moves between jazz influences and modernist clarity.
The recording is now available in retail stores, as well as the theatre shops of Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and online: https://www.musicalvienna.at/de/souvenirs/11/DVDs-amp-Blu-ray
