DVD + Blu-Ray:
Out now! DVD "Metanoia - Simone Menezes & K"
Metanoia: A powerful meditation on a transcendental concept.
The word "Metanoia", for which ‘meta’ means beyond and ‘noia’ means intellect, is a word that describes a change in the way of seeing and thinking about things. The visionary Italian-Brazilian conductor Simone Menezes, whose work is rooted in the values of authenticity, identity, and truth, finds this transcendental quality in various beguiling works by Giacomo Puccini, Arvo Pärt, Alexander Borodin, Johann Sebastian Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Ennio Morricone, which all feature in her latest CD “Metanoia”.
Simone’s CD is part of a huge “Metanoia” project, which also encompasses a worldwide tour and now, a 72-minute music documentary. In this distinctive, inspiring and thought-provoking DVD, Simone speaks more widely about the transcendental concept of metanoia, looking at moments of metanoia in the lives of the classical greats to contemplate what gives music a transcendental quality. Together with her ensemble, K, the choir Sequenza 9.3, and violinist Manon Galy, Simone Menezes travels across Rome to explore the works of great composers and renaissance art with a range of artists, from conductor Antonio Pappano to the painter Michael Triegel to the choreographer Valerio Longo. These conversations are interspersed with musical works and dance, in a captivating and contemplative celebration of life, art, and music.
