BERG: WOZZECK / DUTCH NATIONAL OPERA
Alban Berg’s poignant masterpiece Wozzeck staged at the Dutch National Opera in 2017 by Krzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Marc Albrecht.
Based on real events and drawing on Georg Büchner’s revolutionary play, Alban Berg’s Wozzeck turns a grimly tragic narrative of violence and murder into one of the most powerful and original operas of the 20th century.
The DNO's production is staged by Krzysztof Warlikowski, who is regarded as one of the great theatre innovators of his generation, and conducted by highly in-demand conductor Marc Albrecht. The title roles are sung by the most acclaimed and widely-recognized classical singers in the opera world today: the British operatic baritone Christopher Maltman, and the top Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek.
The Financial Times declared this to be ‘a beautiful, moving, engrossing production… this is a consummate Wozzeck, blending clarity, lyricism, compassion and crushing force.’

How could anyone keep writing symphonies after Beethoven? Johannes Brahms struggled with his work for a long time, and his efforts paid off. The legendary Herbert Blomstedt presents his interpretation of his Symphony no. 1 in Dresden. And at the piano, Leif Ove Andsnes plays the great composer's first Piano Concerto.
