Don Carlo - Operklosterneuburg 2023
A classic opera of unparalleled depth, directed by Günther Groissböck.
"Don Carlo," an opera of sublime artistry, is poised to unfold its grandeur within the enchanting baroque imperial courtyard of Klosterneuburg Abbey.
"Don Carlo" by Verdi stands as a towering achievement in the world of opera. It delves deep into the human condition, masterfully expressing the complex emotions of the Infante and Élisabeth de Valois. Their love, constrained by the constraints of state, is portrayed with unparalleled emotional intensity through Verdi's exceptional music.
Günther Groissböck not only lends his voice to Spain's King Philip II, he also directs Verdi's monumental adaptation of Friederich Schiller's drama, together with Monica Ivona Rusu-Radman. Under the musical direction of Christoph Campestrini, Margarita Gritskova is Princess Eboli and Thomas Weinhappel is the confidant of the Infante Marquis Posa. The title role is performed by Arthur Espiritu.
