"Die ersten Menschen" at the Dutch National Opera
ARTE Concert shows Rudi Stephans only opera from the Holland Festival.
A rediscovery by long-forgotten German composer Rudi Stephan (1887-1915) is the highlight of the Holland Festival 2021. The opera “Die ersten Menschen” is about Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel and the primal conflicts of humanity. After more than one hundred years, the opera will for the first time be staged in the Netherlands. Director Calixto Bieito is internationally recognized for his uncompromising productions, French conductor François-Xavier Roth leads the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for the first time. Annette Dasch, Kyle Ketelsen, John Osborn and Leigh Melrose will perform on stage. The opera will be available on ARTE Concert from 25 June 2021 as part of the ARTE Opera Season with subtitles in six languages.
