CD:
Daniel Ciobanu – The debut recording
On 18 September, Accentus Music releases the debut recording of Romanian pianist Daniel Ciobanu with works by Prokofiev, Enescu, Debussy and Liszt.
Pianist Daniel Ciobanu’s exemplary debut recording will be released on CD by Accentus Music with a
stunning selection of works by the eminent composers Prokofiev, Enescu, Debussy and Liszt. This
fine choice of master works, coupled with Ciobanu’s luminous talent, creates a strong profile for the
pianist’s debut disc.
Heralded for his “blinding technique” and immense skill as an “inspirational colorist” and “a captivating inventor”, Daniel Ciobanu first received international acclaim in 2017 at the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, where he succeeded in winning both the Silver Medal and the Audience Prize. Since then, Ciobanu has performed across the globe and toured in Japan, China, Taiwan, South Africa and Brazil.
In this debut recording, Ciobanu showcases his immense versatility and artistry: Masterfully navigating the intense, brutal evocations of war as depicted in one of the most daring and original works in Prokofiev’s oeuvre, Piano Sonata No. 7, whilst elsewhere pouring physical, technical, intellectual and emotional strength into Liszt’s Dante Sonata to conjure up the sound-world of Dante’s inferno. By contrast, the release also encompasses the mystical shadows and whispers, dream states and intimate moments revealed in Enescu’s “Carillon nocturne” and Debussy’s Preludes, with Ciobanu expertly mastering their experimentation with rhythms and harmonies.
Recorded at the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, May 2020.
