CD + Blu-Ray:
Kirill Petrenko conducts Sergei Rachmaninoff
The Berliner Philharmoniker in the “musical homeland” of their chief conductor.
The Berliner Philharmoniker’s third edition together with Kirill Petrenko is dedicated to Sergei Rachmaninoff, the 150th anniversary of whose birth was celebrated in 2023. It features the Second Symphony, the Piano Concerto No. 2 with Kirill Gerstein as the soloist, and “The Isle of the Dead” – three works that the composer, pianist and conductor regularly performed together until his emigration in 1917 – plus the “Symphonic Dances”, his final work.
In addition to the recordings on CD and Blu-ray, the hardcover edition includes an accompanying book designed by Thomas Struth with in-depth introductory texts.
