Art, Passion & Power: A Symphony with OFUNAM
OFUNAM's concert invites you on a journey through captivating musical narratives, blending literature and history into a powerful symphonic experience.
Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Facultad de Artes y Diseño (Faculty of Arts and Design) with OFUNAM in a concert that combines musical narratives and timeless literary inspiration, under the direction of guest conductor Manuel Hernández-Silva.
The program opens with Portrait, the debut composition by acclaimed flutist Gili Schwarzman. This compelling work, in two contrasting movements, depicts the rise of Alexander Zhimau, a charismatic yet power-hungry political figure. Through Naiveté and Megalomania, Schwarzman explores the seductive and corrupting nature of power.
The evening continues with Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini, a symphonic poem inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Inferno. This dramatic piece paints the tragic love story of Francesca and Paolo, whose forbidden passion condemns them to an eternity of torment amidst the infernal storms.
The concert concludes with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in D Minor, Op. 120. Dedicated to Clara Schumann, this symphony showcases Schumann’s innovative approach to cyclic form, where themes evolve and reappear, creating an emotionally cohesive and deeply personal work.
A compelling journey through music and literature, this program highlights the enduring power of art to tell stories and evoke emotions.
