From 17-21 November, Moscow Philharmonic Society will host Another Space: 7th International Festival, Russia’s premiere convention of contemporary music performers. Conductor Vladimir Jurowski will join the Festival as its art director. For five days Tchaikovsky Concert Hall of Moscow Philharmonic Society will host performances of already classical pieces composed in the second half of the 20th century, as well recent compositions written by Russian and international authors.

The Night Concert on 20 November will feature pieces composed by Valentin Silvestrov and Alexander Manotskov. Their pieces will be performed by Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra and Alexander Rudin (cello). Conductor – art director of the Festival: Vladimir Jurowski.

Valentyn Silvestrov is a Soviet and Ukrainian composer and pianist of contemporary classical music. Silvestrov is perhaps best known for his post-modern musical style; some, if not most, of his works could be considered neoclassical and post-modernist. Using traditional tonal and modal techniques, Silvestrov creates a unique and delicate tapestry of dramatic and emotional textures, qualities which he suggests are otherwise sacrificed in much of contemporary music.

Alexander Manotskov is a St. Petersburg composer writing in many genres and for a range of performers, varying from soloists to symphonic orchestras. In addition, Alexander Manotskov acts as a multi-instrumentalist, whose music embraces a variety of genres. He is the author of chamber, instrumental and vocal works, compositions for symphony orchestra and choir, operas and cantatas.
