From 17-22 November, Moscow Philharmonic Society will host Another Space: 7th International Festival, Russia’s premiere convention of contemporary music performers. Conductor Vladimir Jurowski will join the Festival as its art director. For five days Tchaikovsky Concert Hall of Moscow Philharmonic Society will host performances of already classical pieces composed in the second half of the 20th century, as well recent compositions written by Russian and international authors.

The Concert on 20 November will feature pieces composed by Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988), Sergey Newsky (born 1971) and Gyorgy Ligeti (1923-2006). It will be performed by Andrey Gugnin (piano), Questa Musica Ensemble and Moscow State Symphony Orchestra (MSSO), and conducted by Philipp Chizhevsky. Tune in on 20 November at 19:00 MSK.

Philipp Chizhevsky was born in 1984 in Moscow. He graduated from Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, majoring in opera/symphonic conducting (Class of prof. Valery Polyansky). In 2012 he undertook the premiere of the opera Franziskus at the Bolshoi Theatre – written by Sergej Newski, one of Russia’s leading contemporary composers. In 2013 he was leading Questa Musica in a production of Igor Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale with choreographer Oleg Glushkov. Since 2014 he has been conducting at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, where he directed the 1st Baroque music festival (2014-15 season). Since 2016 Chizhevsky has been collaborating with the Tokyo-based Tokyo New City Orchestra.
