Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: La clemenza di Tito
Teodor Currentzis conducts Peter Sellars’ production of “La clemenza di Tito” at the Salzburg Festival featuring Russell Thomas & Golda Schultz.
Teodor Correntzis and his MusicAeterna will give their Salzburg Festival Debut with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera seria “La clemenza di Tito”. Conductor Teodor Currentzis is the music director of the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Perm. With his ensemble MusicAeterna, he is renowned for temperamental yet sensitive performances. In 2016 he was voted Conductor of the Year by the “Opernwelt”.
In the words of Peter Sellars, stage director of the production and long-time collaborator with Currentzis, his music interpretations are “ powerful, genuinely dramatic, poetic, heart-felt and real”.
The American director Peter Sellars made Festival history as early as 1998 with Olivier Messiaen’s opera “Saint François d’Assise”. In his staging of Mozart’s very last opera “La clemenza di Tito” (The Clemency of Titus), Sellars sets out to answer the questions of “How can we live together in times of conflict?” and “How can we offer a healing gesture in times full of anger?”
In the main roles, Russell Thomas sings Tito Vespasiano, Golda Schultz embodies Vitellia, Christina Gansch is Servilia and Marianne Crebassa sings Sesto.
