In late spring, our team recorded a concert at the Royal Opera of Versailles—one of Europe’s most beautiful yet technically demanding venues. The Covent Garden Sinfonietta, conducted by Emmanuel Plasson, performed alongside soloists Dali Gutserieva and Adam Gutseriev, presenting works by Saint-Saëns, Grieg, and Richard Strauss.

The main challenge was the venue itself. As a protected historical monument, Versailles imposes strict limitations on any technical installations. Cable routing through audience areas was strictly prohibited, requiring all 16 cameras to operate within a fully wireless signal transmission system.

Audio recording proved equally complex. We have worked under various constraints in venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna and the Berlin Philharmonie. However, Versailles marked the first time in our practice where microphone suspension was banned not for technical, but purely for aesthetic reasons. The venue required that no technical equipment be visible within the historic interior. This forced a complete rethinking of our recording approach and significantly increased the scope and complexity of post-production.

One of the most distinctive camera positions was located in the Royal Box of Louis XVI. Originally designed to offer the best view in the house, it became one of the most compelling vantage points for our cameras.

Sixteen wireless cameras, an international crew, and an 18th-century theatre demonstrate how contemporary production technologies can operate in harmony with cultural heritage while meeting the highest broadcast standards.
