VERDI’S “RIGOLETTO” FROM THE CHORÉGIES D‘ORANGE
Discover Verdi’s famous opera "Rigoletto" in an extraordinary open air staging at the Chorégies d’Orange with Leo Nucci in the title role!
France’s most traditional theatre festival, the Chorégies d’Orange, presents its summer highlight “Rigoletto”, composed by Giuseppe Verdi, on the open air stage of the city’s ancient Roman theatre.
The Théâtre antique d’Orange, Europe’s best preserved amphitheatre and part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, not only constitutes a venerable, picturesque backdrop for Verdi’s first operatic masterpiece but also impresses with its outstanding acoustics.
Charles Roubaud’s staging features a star-studded cast, featuring amongst others legendary Italian baritone Leo Nucci in the title role of the tragic hero Rigoletto – hunch-backed court jester of the Duke of Mantua – and rising star soprano Nadine Sierra as his daughter Gilda. The singers are supported by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France under the baton of Mikko Franck and by the Choirs of the Operas of Avignon, Monte-Carlo and Nice.
Having performed the role of Rigoletto more than 500 times, Leo Nucci is more than experienced, bus this time appears “more touching than ever” in this “exceptional evening full of adrenaline”. With Sierra’s “fantastic, elegant, juvenile and passionate“ Gilda, Nucci’s Rigoletto forms a “perfect symbiosis which inevitably leaves you speechless” (ForumOpera).
