Venice TV Award Announces Performing Arts Winners 2024
The event, supported by the IMZ, awards the year’s television masterpieces.
The winners of the 2024 Venice TV Award have been revealed. Two weeks after the Venice Film Festival, this event brought together an international jury in the iconic city of Venice to evaluate the best in television across 19 categories.
In the category Performing Arts, the top honour went to a production by Vereinigten Bühnen Wien: Händel's oratorio Theodora. The production featured a monumental staging, with the set transforming into a coffeehouse-cathedral. The performance was broadcast on 3sat.
Across all categories, the BBC stood out, securing three Gold Medals, the most of any participant. Other notable winners included Apple TV+, NHK Japan, and Globo TV Brazil, each receiving two Gold Medals.

Reflecting on the award entries, Alan Holland, Head of Specialist Factual Productions, re-marked, "I thoroughly enjoyed the process and was impressed by the exceedingly high stand-ard and diversity of entries this year.” His comments highlight the range of high-quality pro-ductions that competed.
Ditte Feuk, Head of Theatre, Opera and Dance at SVT Drama, Sweden, added, "The selection of productions was outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of the jury for the Ven-ice TV Award.”
