UNITEL GOES 4K

Unitel is cooperating with digim (German media service provider digital images GmbH) to restore and scan unique Unitel 35mm catalogue productions in 4K Ultra High Definition.

Now the 1st production from this new cooperation is available and soon to be aired on 3sat:
The legendary performance of Beethoven’s monumental 5th Symphony by the Berliner Philharmoniker and Herbert von Karajan, directed for the screen by the maestro himself!

After almost half a century the production has undergone an extensive filmic restoration process. The 35mm material has been scanned before being meticulously restored and color-graded – for the first time, this great moment of symphonic history boasts a state-of-the art 4K Ultra High Definition resolution with an unparalleled level of detail and unmatched brilliance, making it a feast for the eyes and ears.

The Unitel catalogue features some of the world’s greatest and finest moments of classical music from the last half a century of classical music – fundamental works of art shot on 35 mm film that have inspired generations of music lovers all over the world to this day.

Next to enhancing the catalogue in 4K UHD Unitel has also started to produce in 4K UHD. By now already more than 20 productions from festivals and opera houses such as the Salzburg Festival, Teatro alla Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden, Wiener Staatsoper and Teatro Regio Torino are available.
