TURANDOT @ TEATRO REGIO TORINO
Gianandrea Noseda conducts the orchestra and chorus of the Teatro Regio Torino in Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece "Turandot", staged by Stefano Poda.
Telling the story of Princess Turandot, whose cold heart is won by her cunning suitor Prince Calaf, Puccini’s opera features one of the most famous arias of opera history: "Nessun dorma".
At the magnificent Teatro Regio Torino, this triumphant anticipation of victory by Calaf will be sung by Jorge de León. In his role as the Unknown Prince he encounters the Chinese princess, performed by the Ukrainian soprano Oksama Dyka. Alongside Erika Grimaldi as the slave girl Liù, Korean bass In-Sung Sim stars as the deposed King of Tartary, Timur. At the helm of the Teatro Regio orchestra is Gianandrea Noseda, one of the leading conductors of his generation. Named International Opera Awards Conductor of the Year 2016, Noseda uses the joint forces of theatre’s chorus and the Children Chorus of Teatro Regio and Conservatory “G. Verdi” in this Turin production of "Turandot". Stage director Stefano Poda dedicates himself to bring Puccini’s Ancient Chinese setting to life. To achieve an aesthetic and conceptual unity, his work also encompasses set and costume design as well as lighting and choreography.
With "Turandot", Noseda and Poda continue their successful collaboration: Their celebrated staging of Charles Gounod’s "Faust" at the Teatro Regio Torino is also available in the Unitel catalogue.
