Thielemann, Garanča & Vienna Philharmonic
Christian Thielemann + the Vienna Philharmonic pay homage to Wagner + Bruckner at Salzburg Festival, joined by the brilliant Elina Garanča.
Salzburg Easter Festival’s artistic director Christian Thielemann is a compelling advocate for German music, and his latest Vienna Philharmonic programme is smack-dab at the heart of his favoured repertoire.
For his long-awaited return to the Summer Festival he opens with Wagner's Wesendock Songs, considered musical sketches for the opera “Tristan und Isolde", with terrific Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Garanča as soloist.
“Garanča proved that she is currently the ultimate in the mezzo-soprano fach. The fusion of intensity and noble sound is grandiose”, hailed Der Standard. Followed by Bruckner’s monumental Symphony No. 4, the “Romantic”, this concert has been undoubtedly one of the magic moments of the Festival, culminating in ovations and cheers for Thielemann.
