Theatrical Premiere: 'Waiting Places' Dance Film
San Francisco Dance Film Festival presents the theatrical premiere of Waiting Placesy, the newest film by luminaries Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber.
The San Francisco Dance Film Festival presents the theatrical premiere of Waiting Placesy, a new narrative dance film from acclaimed artists Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, on 08 June at ODC Theater in San Francisco, California.
Adapted from their 2024 stage work, Waiting Placesy brings five dancers into a heightened, intimate exploration of longing, connection, and suspended time. Framed by vivid black-and-white cinematography, the film uses amplified sounds of daily life and bursts of solo piano to evoke the emotional texture of liminal spaces. Featuring performances by Smith, Schraiber, and dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet, Waiting Placesy exemplifies the growing intersection of dance and narrative film.
Following the screening, audiences will experience a live showing of a new work in process by Smith and Schraiber, offering a rare glimpse into their current creative development. A moderated Q&A will further explore their work across major international stages, including Paris Opera Ballet, Ballet BC, and GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, as well as upcoming film collaborations with Terrence Malick and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with two of today's leading voices in contemporary dance and film. For industry professionals, presenters, and curators, it highlights work at the forefront of interdisciplinary performance and filmmaking.
This event is co-presented by ALL ARTS, the Jewish Film Institute, and the San Francisco Ballet.
