The Stranglers at the Olympia
Celebrating 50 years, The Stranglers remain a singular force in British rock with a sound that fuses punk roots and melodic sophistication.
Formed in 1974, The Stranglers quickly became a key player in the UK punk scene, with a sound that was darker, moodier and more musically complex than that of most of their contemporaries. Within just over a year, they released three landmark albums: Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes and Black and White, scoring major hits like Peaches, No More Heroes and Walk On By.
Far from fading with the end of punk, the band continued to evolve. Their chart successes extended into the 1980s with timeless tracks such as Golden Brown, Strange Little Girl and Always the Sun. Across a career that now spans six decades, The Stranglers have achieved 24 Top 40 singles and 19 Top 40 albums, making them one of Britain’s most enduring rock acts.
On conquered ground, the UK-based band celebrated their 50th anniversary at the iconic Olympia venue in Paris, in the pure tradition of 70s British punk rock. The quartet performed their classics, sending the audience into a trance, without forgetting their song Something Better Change, which plays like an 80s jukebox anthem.
The Stranglers continue to create, staying fiercely independent and sonically adventurous. Their influence can be heard across generations, and their legacy is a testament to a band that has always played by its own rules.
