The Soul of Polish Music
0000: Moniuszko, Chopin, Karłowicz – three voices of Poland's musical heritage united in a concert with R. Blechacz, Ł. Borowicz and the Poznań Philharmonic.
This concert brings together three defining voices of Polish music, spanning the romantic roots of national opera, the late Romantic lyricism of the symphonic poem, and the lyrical brilliance of the Polish piano tradition.
The evening opens with the Overture to the opera "Halka" by Stanisław Moniuszko, a cornerstone of Polish operatic culture. Its sweeping melodies and folk-inspired rhythmic vitality embody the national spirit that made Moniuszko a foundational figure in Poland’s musical identity.
Under the baton of Łukasz Borowicz, the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra then turns to Eternal Songs, a symphonic poem by the Polish composer Mieczysław Karłowicz – celebrated in Poland yet little known abroad. Forging a late Romantic language influenced by Strauss and Wagner, pantheistic philosophy, and a love of nature, Eternal Songs is long overdue for wider discovery.
At the center of the concert evening is a masterpiece of the Romantic concerto repertoire: Fryderyk Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor. Performed by Rafał Blechacz, internationally acclaimed for his profound and elegant Chopin interpretations, the concerto reveals its full palette of poetic intimacy, lyricism, and virtuosity.
