The Rake’s Progress – Barbara Hannigan, GSO
The premiere and audio-visual recording of the semi-staged production in Gothenburg is the culmination of the documentary project “Taking Risks”.
“The Rake’s Progress” with the Gothenburg Symphony marks Barbara Hannigan’s debut as an opera conductor and is a special “labor of love” for her since she, who has sung the role of Anne Truelove many times, has hand-picked the entire of soloists in international auditions in Stockholm, Zürich, Paris and London as part of her mentoring program “Equilibrium”. In this unique and refined semi-staged production, director Linus Fellbom invites the audience to a journey in time and space, from a distant future to the present day, and on to 18th century London.
The production of “The Rake’s Progress” also marks the final point of filming for the Accentus Music documentary “Taking Risks – Barbara Hannigan”. The film crew has followed Barbara Hannigan over a period of two years, documenting all the production stages.
