The Magic Flute in Salzburg
Salzburg debutant Lydia Steier brings back Mozart's popular opera to the Großes Festspielhaus.
"The Magic Flute" is listened to and performed more often than hardly any other work in opera history. For more than 200 years, its mysteriousness and diversity has been discussed.
It has been in the Salzburg Festival's programme 39 times - most recently in 2012 under Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
In the summer of 2018, the opera returns to the Grosses Festspielhaus - under the musical direction of Constantinos Carydis and directed by Lydia Steier, making her debut in Salzburg. Bruno Ganz as speaker and Matthias Goerne as Sarastro are at the head of a young singer ensemble.
Michael Beyer will be responsible for the ORF live transmission.
