The IMZ Dance Film Competition Returns This November

We’re thrilled to announce the return of dancescreen, the IMZ’s renowned dance film competition – this time in Lisbon, Portugal, in collaboration with the InShadow Lisbon ScreenDance Festival.

An institution for over 30 years, dancescreen is one of the world’s most prestigious platforms for dance films, celebrating outstanding work and granting international visibility through its awards. This year dancescreen is organised in collaboration with the InShadow Lisbon ScreenDance Festival.

Submissions are now open! Enter your films by 30 June for a chance to be screened this November and take part in the competition.

The Competition

The 2025 competition invites submissions in three categories: Best Videodance, Best Documentary, and Best Animation. The IMZ will present awards in the Videodance and Documentary categories.

Videodance entries should highlight the relationship between choreography, camera, and sound, with a strong emphasis on creativity, narrative, experimentation, and technical quality. Works should ideally not exceed 20 minutes in length.

Dance Documentaries can explore the life or work of choreographers, dance companies, or themes from dance history, as well as creative processes and intersections with technology. Full-length recordings of stage performances will not be accepted. The preferred maximum duration is 90 minutes.
