Tanztheater International 2019
It’s time to dance: The contemporary dance festival Tanztheater International in Hanover will present its 34th edition from 29 August to 7 September 2019 at various theatres in Hanover.
The first festival weekend will include the Belgian festival favourites Peeping Tom at the Schauspielhaus: They will be showing the last part of their surreal family trilogy, “Kind”, on 1 September. On 2 September, Ballhof Eins will present an alluring piece of Canadian avantgarde dance with the festival debut of choreographer Catherine Gaudet, “The Fading of the Marvelous”. A sterling double feature awaits audiences on 4 September: Israeli choreographer Hillel Kogan is showing his duet “The Swan and the Pimp” in Ballhof Eins, in which he takes a tongue-in-cheek look at power relations, and on the same evening Ballhof Zwei is hosting the ten-minute solo “Äffi” by Hanover’s new ballet director, Marco Goecke.
Furthermore, there will be a German premiere by French-Senegalese choreographer Amala Dianor, who will bring together urban and classical dance styles; Japanese choreographer Kaori Ito will introduce a duet with her father; Galit Liss from Israel will present a performance for 18 elderly women from Tel Aviv; the Catalonian choreographer Pere Faura will bring two productions to Hanover, both dealing with iconic dance works and – last but not least – the festival will be closed by GNIMC - Guy Nader I Maria Campos - choreographers from Lebanon and Spain, a highly physically demanding production for seven dancers and a live percussionist.
