Styriarte 2022 – Te Deum Conducted by Jordi Savall
Maestro Jordi Savall, the Styriarte Festival Orchestra, and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir perform milestones of baroque music in the church of Stainz.
Maestro Jordi Savall, the Styriarte Festival Orchestra, the Arnold Schoenberg Choir (choral director Erwin Ortner) and outstanding soloists will perform milestones of secular baroque music in the magnificent parish church of Stainz. The program this time includes Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Te Deum" and Johann Sebastian Bach's "Magnificat." The "Te Deum" by the French Baroque composer Charpentier could have been composed either to mark the Battle of Steenkerke on August 3, 1692, or the Treaty of Turin (1696). Nowadays, this work enjoys great popularity mainly because the first tacts of its prelude have been used as the "Eurovision anthem" since 1954. The Magnificat by the Leipzig Thomas Cantor Bach was likely composed in 1733. In 12 elaborately crafted sections, the choir and soloists recall the encounter between Mary and Elizabeth as well as the joy over the announcement of the birth of Jesus.
