Start of filming for Clara Schumann documentary
In March 2019 Accentus Music will start filming its documentary about Clara Schumann.
Clara Schumann‘s biography is legendary: her austere childhood, her extraordinary talent as a pianist, her early love for the composer Robert Schumann, which she asserted against the will of her father, and the upbringing of seven children provide enough material for myths and clichés. Clara Schumann is regarded as a musical prodigy, an idol of romantically transfigured love, an exemplary mother, and an overlooked composer.
Who was Clara Schumann? The eponymous documentary approaches the phenomenon through musicians who nowadays deal with Clara: as interpreters of her music, as seekers in her biography, as time travelers.
The narrative line for the film is drawn from European metropolises that Clara traveled to as a pianist. In addition to her native city Leipzig, filming is planned in Paris, London, St. Petersburg, and Vienna. In the five cities, we meet musicians who perform concerts there featuring works by Clara Schumann or pieces that she herself played at the time.
