We are very happy to announce that two outstanding films from Claus Wischmann and Holger Preusse won at the 53. International Television Festival Golden Prague last month.
The Czech Crystal Award - Documentary – goes to “Gozo – One Island Two opera houses” and the Dagmar and Václav Havel´s Vize 97 Foundation Award – goes to “Survival artists”, also shortlisted for the Prix d’Italia.
Gozo - a small island right next to Malta, 30,000 inhabitants, two Opera Houses - has more opera per square mile than any other place in the world. The organization, the staging, and much of the singing are all done by amateurs. The only trouble is, there is no love lost between the two houses. The Jury called the program “a masterpiece of structure and storytelling, this film shows music as the engine of social life in a small community.”
“Survival artists” tells the life of professional musicians who practise their art with great passion and skill, but still have to work on the side. Either just to make ends meet or to maintain a certain quality of life: As a garbage collector, an auto mechanic or doctor. It “is about a deep inner fulfilment, a pure life's passion”.
