Two singers at the height of their powers – radiant soprano Nadine Sierra and tenor sensation Benjamin Bernheim – take on the star-crossed lovers in Gounod’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragic romance in this intoxicating production. On the podium, Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the honeyed score, with a cast that also features mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey, tenor Frederick Ballentine and baritone Will Liverman, and bass-baritone Alfred Walker.

“A glorious Benjamin Bernheim and Nadine Sierra in the title roles… Sierra and Bernheim were a dream!" - The New York Times

In Offenbach's masterpiece Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Benjamin Bernheim stars as the tortured poet unlucky in love. He is joined by a trio of leading ladies: Soprano Erin Morley revisits one of her signature roles, the mechanical doll Olympia, a part for which she has been celebrated. Soprano Pretty Yende portrays the plagued diva Antonia and Stella, and mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine appears as the Venetian seductress Giulietta. Marco Armiliato conducts Bartlett Sher’s colourful production, which also features bass-baritone Christian Van Horn and mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya making an impressive company debut in the double role of the Muse and Hoffmann’s friend Nicklausse.

"The stylish French tenor Benjamin Bernheim created a vocally compelling, emotionally profound portrait of the titular hero. Singing with lustrous legato, gentle lyricism, faultless enunciation and striking tone, he made it easy to relate to the conflicted character’s outbursts of lovelorn anguish." – Bachtrack
