Peculiar by Ana Morales
Poorhouse International is making its first foray into Flamenco with a prestigious live recording of “Peculiar” by Ana Morales.
Ana Morales has become a superstar of Flamenco. After studying at the Barcelona Conservatory and a scholarship with the Centro Andaluz de Danza she began her career with an appearance in Antonio el Pipas “Puntales” at the Bienal de Flamenco Sevilla 2000.
In the following years she toured with the Andalusian Dance Company in choreographies by José Antonio Ruiz, Javier Latorre and Antonio Gades. A project in honour of Salvador Dali choreographed by José Antonio Ruiz, a participation in Carlos Saura´s “Iberia” and “Kahlo Caló” by Amador Rojas followed. In 2010 she presented her first show, completely designed and choreographed by herself, entitled “De Sandalia a Tacón”.
She began to modernize Flamenco albeit by preserving its essence and now working with complex light design, employing drums, harp and electronic soundscapes instead of a solo guitar and feeding her inspiration by literature, visual arts, cinema and even philosophy. In “Peculiar”, recorded in Nîmes 2023 she assembles the who is who of Flamenco with Antonio Molina and Julia Acosta dancing beside her and musicians like Miquel Marin Pavón, Ana Crisman, Tomás de Perrate and Rycardo Moreno.
