Pablo Heras-Casado conducts two Magnificats
To open the International Baroque Days in the breathtaking Melk Abbey, Pablo Heras-Casado conducts two groups in two settings of the Magnificat text.
To open the International Baroque Days in the breathtaking Melk Abbey, Pablo Heras-Casado conducts two superb groups – Concentus Musicus Wien and Collegium Vocale 1704 – in two rousing settings of the Magnificat text.
The first, by Johann Sebastian Bach, was originally composed in 1723 – his first major setting of a Latin text – and revised in 1733, going on to establish itself as one of his most popular works.
The second is by his second son, Carl Philipp Emanuel, a work composed in 1749 that is no less brilliant but reflects the new musical styles then coming into vogue.
With Heras-Casado at the helm of this orchestra and chorus – and a superb lineup of soloists – this promises to be an invigorating and enriching concert.
