Open letters from the music sector to the European Commission
The IMZ, together with 75 music organisations worldwide, is calling for better recognition of music in all policy areas.
According to the Study “Rebuilding Europe”, the music sector faced a loss of 76% in turnover in 2020 as a consequence of Covid-19; the loss in music practices with a cultural and social value will be equally high. It's high time to claim a front row seat for placing music in society.
In total, 76 International European and national music organisations are demanding better recognition of music in all policy areas! After more than 15 months of lockdowns, closed concert halls and postponed concerts, festivals, etc. the music sector in Europe and the world is at risk of turning into a stigmatised sector with only a few surviving. We are convinced that the music sector can help overcome the Covid-19 crisis and contributes to the digital, green + inclusive recovery of Europe.
The IMZ – as well as other renowned institutions like the AEC or the IMC – have gladly supported the letter, initiated by the EMC, since they shine a light on the extremely hard situation musicians and music institutions find themselves in right now.
