Norma from Theater an der Wien on ARTE July 27th
Save the date: 'Norma' from Theater an der Wien on ARTE on 27 July at 22:50.
We are pleased to announce that Vincenzo Bellini’s opera Norma will be broadcasted on ARTE on 27 July at 22:50.
In the title role: Asmik Grigorian, who made a sensational role debut at the MusikTheater an der Wien in February 2025. With her extraordinary vocal and dramatic range, she brings new intensity to the figure of Norma, a high priestess secretly entangled with the enemy commander and struggling to balance personal desire with political and religious duty. She is joined by Aigul Akhmetshina as Adalgisa, Freddie De Tommaso as Pollione, Tareq Nazmi as Oroveso, Victoria Leshkevich as Clotilde, and Gustavo Quaresma as Flavio.
Directed by Vasily Barkhatov, the production sets this tale of forbidden love and betrayal against the backdrop of a crumbling political order, where ancient gods are replaced by new ideologies. The Wiener Symphoniker are conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta, and the Arnold Schoenberg Chor sings under the direction of Erwin Ortner. The premiere was on 16 February 2025 at the Theater an der Wien.
You can watch live on TV or via ARTE mediathek, where the broadcast will be available for a week to rewatch.
