Nielsen, Nielsen, Nielsen!
A unique festival with Fabio Luisi, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Bomsori Kim, and many more.
At six concerts spread out over two weeks, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra with its chief conductor Fabio Luisi, perform all of Carl Nielsen’s important choral and orchestral works, beginning with his striking debut symphony and much-loved choral work Springtime in Funen.
In Symphony No. 2, Nielsen displays his grasp of the human mind, full of humour and keen observations. Symphony No. 3 marked Nielsen’s real breakthrough. The dramatic side of Nielsen explodes in his 4th Symphony, ‘The Inextinguishable’, where a duel between two tympanists underlines the struggle between light and dark. In Symphony No. 5, the composer soars to cosmic heights when creating a completely new type of symphony about the human will to live and our demons. The Korean star violinist Bomsori Kim has taken over his unique violin concerto and made it her own. Carl Nielsen’s last symphony, No. 6, is humorous, down-to-earth and head-strong music which, with its many surprises, was to become a musical will full of good spirits and astonishment.
