New Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition 2017
In 2017, the Queen Elisabeth Competition will hold its first International Cello Competition in Brussels (Belgium). Application opens in November!
The Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium would like to welcome all IMZ members to its very first International Cello Competition, organised in Brussels (Belgium) in May/June 2017.
February 2017, a video preselection round will determine the number of cellists that will go through to the First Round (8 - 13 May). The candidates will perform several works with piano and cello accompaniment, as well as a part of the solo cello sonata by Eugène Ysaÿe. From 15 to 20 May, the 24 semi-finalists will play a concerto with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie under the baton of Frank Braley, and a recital containing an unpublished contemporary work and movements from a suite for solo cello by J.S. Bach. The 12 finalists will compete for the International Queen Elisabeth Grand Prize from 29 May until 3 June at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts. They will be accompanied for the first time by Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Stéphane Denève.
Also welcome to join us at the two laureates’ concerts in the same hall, on the 13th of June with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, cond. by Christian Arming, and on the 15th of June with deFilharmonie, cond. by Muhai Tang.
The rules and complete programme of this brand new competition are available on www.qeimc.be. Application will be fully online and opens in November 2016.
