NEW IMZ MEMBER: Hofesh Shechter Company
Let's welcome Hofesh Shechter Company to the IMZ Network, a boundary-breaking dance company, based in the UK!
Founded in 2008, Hofesh Shechter Company is a boundary-breaking dance company, based in the UK. Our work is created by Artistic Director Hofesh Shechter and can be seen in major European cities, Canada, USA and beyond.
We believe that dance can prod and poke and tap into our deepest emotions; an instinctive, deep-rooted part of ourselves that we rarely access in modern life. We dance to know what it feels like, not just to live, but to be alive. In all our work, we strive to move ourselves, and our audiences, beyond reason. We celebrate and inspire the freedom of the human spirit through dance and travel the world with our extraordinary company of internationally diverse dancers, breaking boundaries and releasing the visceral power that lies beyond the conscious mind.
Our company repertoire includes Uprising (2006), In your rooms (2007), The Art of Not Looking Back (2009), Political Mother (2010), Political Mother: The Choreographer’s Cut (2011), Sun (2013), barbarians (2015) and Grand Finale (2017), with SHOW (2018) and POLITICAL MOTHER UNPLUGGED (2020) performed by Shechter II, our apprentice programme. Hofesh Shechter’s new creation Double Murder (2021), will continue touring into 2022 alongside LIGHT: Bach Dances (2021).
For film, Hofesh Shechter’s Clowns (2020), was presented globally online and won Best International Short Dance Film at CHOREOSCOPE – The International Dance Film Festival of Barcelona. Hofesh Shechter’s iconic stage work Political Mother exploded onto the screen as an UNPLUGGED, unapologetic and exhilarating new short film. Filmed during lockdown and performed by Shechter II, a new generation of exciting world-class dancers and set against a backdrop of Shay Hamias’ animations and Shechter’s cinematic score.
