Moscow Philharmonic Society
The IMZ is happy to welcome the Moscow Philharmonic Society as a new IMZ Member!
The very high level of The Moscow Philharmonic Society’s concerts was evident from its very first years. During the 1920s, the artistic council of the Philharmonic was headed by Nikolai Myaskovsky and the many of the world’s leading musicians took part in its concerts, among them, Otto Klemperer, Erich Kleiber, Ernest Amsermet, Artur Rubinstein, Efram Zimbalist, Jascha Heifetz. Composers Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger and Bela Bartok appeared in Moscow, performing their own works.
The Moscow Philharmonic has become the country’s leading concert organization, operating both in an artistic capacity and as a producer. It acts as the principal organizer of large-scale international projects involving Russian ensembles. Over the past decade, it has considerably increased the number of concerts it presents, which now amount to more than 3,000 each year.
Today, Russia is actively discovering its own identity within the world music community and the Moscow Philharmonic Society adheres to highest international standards in leading this quest.
The Moscow Philharmonic Society's website www.meloman.ru is a virtual concert venue in itself. Most performances can be watched and listened to online and as part of the webcast collection. Although nothing compares to the vibrant spirit of a live performance – the videos will certainly help you keep up-to-date with current and upcoming performances and choose music to your liking.
The Moscow Philharmonic Society hopes that the website will be of help to longtime patrons with already cultivated musical tastes and those who have just started the lifelong journey of discovering the world of classical music, alike.
