If you thought today’s great jazz icons belonged to another era, Melody Gardot proves otherwise. The American singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist marked 15 years of an extraordinary career with eight sold-out shows at the legendary Olympia in Paris: one of those unforgettable evenings was captured on film.

Titled “The Essential”, this concert distills everything that makes Gardot unique: timeless elegance, raw emotion and striking musical intensity. Surrounded by seven outstanding musicians, including a vibrant three-piece horn section, two percussionists and her longtime collaborator Philippe Baden-Powell on piano, she transforms the stage into a rich, immersive soundscape.

Across fourteen carefully crafted songs, each performance unfolds like a new chapter, with its own visual and musical identity. Signature tracks such as The Rain, C’est Magnifique, From Paris With Love and Preacherman sit alongside French-language gems like La Chanson des Vieux Amants and Les Étoiles, highlighting her deep connection with French audiences.

Warm, sensual and instantly recognizable, Gardot’s voice glides effortlessly from sophisticated jazz to refined pop, enhanced by bold arrangements, spontaneous improvisations and genuine onstage chemistry. A vibrant tribute to her journey so far, and a powerful reminder that jazz is very much alive.
