Martha Argerich & Friends in Lucerne
0000: Martha Argerich joins leading soloists in Lucerne for a chamber programme blending Beethoven, Debussy and improvisation.
The Piano Symphonique Festival returns to Lucerne for its fifth edition, once again under the artistic presence of Martha Argerich as “Associate Pianist.” A legendary figure of the piano, Argerich is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of her generation, celebrated for her intensity, spontaneity and exceptional chamber collaborations.
This concert places her at the centre of a refined programme alongside long-standing musical partners. She performs Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 2 with Mischa Maisky, followed by the “Kreutzer” Sonata with violinist Janine Jansen. The programme also explores a more intimate and impressionistic sound world with two works by Debussy, performed with Stephen Kovacevich, revealing Argerich’s subtle sense of colour and phrasing.
The second half offers a contrasting perspective with Sisyphus, an original improvisation by harpsichordist Jean Rondeau. Drawing on themes from Bach, Couperin, Biber and Ligeti, the piece creates a dialogue between historical repertoire and contemporary expression.
Bringing together major international soloists, this concert reflects Martha Argerich’s unique artistic network and her enduring commitment to collaboration. Combining canonical works and creative exploration, it offers a compelling vision of chamber music at the highest level.
