Mahler & Rachmaninoff: Lucerne Festival 2024
Recordings of two excellent performances from this year's Lucerne Festival will be available for licensing & delivery starting in September.
The Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly opened this year’s festival with a compelling performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 – a work that journeys from dark, brooding passages to a climactic burst of joyous exuberance. Elegance and precision have become synonymous with the orchestra's interpretation of Mahler. With over a hundred musicians coming together, the concert was both visually and acoustically spectacular.

Continuing their Rachmaninoff cycle, Riccardo Chailly and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra juxtaposed the youthful vigour of his First Piano Concerto against the reflective depth of the Symphonic Dances. At just 22, Alexander Malofeev’s performance of the First Piano Concerto captivated the audience with his profound musical maturity, marking him as a standout talent in the classical world. Earlier works by Rachmaninoff were also performed on this concert evening, including the Scherzo in D minor and the Youth Symphony.
