Louis Armstrong: Good Evening Ev'rybody
An All-Star Celebration of Armstrong’s 70th Birthday at the 1970 Newport Jazz Festival, featuring Dizzy Gillespie, Mahalia Jackson, and other Jazz Greats.
"Good Evening Ev'rybody: In Celebration of Louis Armstrong" is the never-before-released concert performance of Louis Armstrong and other musical greats at the 1970 Newport Jazz Festival in celebration of Armstrong's 70th birthday. Armstrong performs several of his greatest hits throughout the rehearsal and the concert. In addition to Armstrong's performances, special guest artists, including Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Owens, Bobby Hackett, Wild Bill Davison, and Ray Nance, perform some of Armstrong's most famous hits. Mahalia Jackson leads off a rousing and moving gospel-inspired finale that has the crowd on its feet wanting more, as Armstrong sends ev'rybody home with his trademark big smile.
Louis Armstrong passed away on 6 July 6 1971, and this is believed to be his last filmed concert performance. Good Evening Ev'rybody was produced from a digital, high-definition restoration of the original 16mm film of the 1970 concert, which was produced and directed by legendary jazz impresario George Wein (founder and producer of the Newport Jazz Festival) and filmmaker Sidney J. Stiber and executive produced by Jack Lewerke.
