The Bayerische Staatsoper assembles a supreme cast for this new production of Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal”: Jonas Kaufmann will take on the title role, Christian Gerhaher will give his role debut as Amfortas, ruler of the Grail Kingdom, and Bálint Szabó will perform as Amfortas’ father Titurel. René Pape as Knight of the Grail Gurnemanz will be joined by Wolfgang Koch, who plays the magician Klingsor. Nina Stemme will star as Kundry, the mysterious ally of the Knights of the Grail. For this “Parsifal” Georg Baselitz, one of the most renowned contemporary German painters, joins forces with star director Pierre Audi.
Kirill Petrenko, General Music Director of the Bayerische Staatsoper and one of the foremost Wagner conductors, will lead the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and the Chorus of the Bayerische Staatsoper in his “Parsifal” debut. Thousands of opera lovers will be able to enjoy this extraordinary production, as it will be shown live on 8th July in cinemas all over Germany and Austria.
