Live from the Lucerne Festival 2017
Accentus Music is filming concerts of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
Following the grandiose performance of the Mahler 8 in 2016, Riccardo Chailly and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra open the Lucerne Festival 2017 with a Strauss program. The opening concert on August 11th is also available for public viewing on the “Inseli”.
In his second program, Chailly devotes himself to the works of composers that strongly influenced him during his career. The concert with the LFO on August 18th includes Mendelssohn's enchanting tone poems to Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony. The concert will be streamed live on Arte Concert and broadcast on SRF at 10:20 pm the same day.
For the first time ever, a Chinese symphony orchestra is performing at Lucerne Festival. If yet more evidence that classical music has long since become a global language were needed, it would be this appearance by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under music director Long Yu. Their concert is dedicated to Russian composers, among them Tchaikovsky whose immortal Violin Concerto will be performed by one of the leading virtuosos of our time: Maxim Vengerov.
It is a farewell and the end of an era: Sir Simon Rattle will be a guest in Lucerne as the principal conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker for one last time. Accentus Music is recording Haydn’s “The Creation” on August 30th – a pensive farewell and a finale that touches upon life through music, thereby proving once again the outstanding artistic cosmos of Rattle and the Berliners.
