Lisa Batiashvili & Sir Simon Rattle
Lisa Batiashvili, Sir Simon Rattle & the Berliner Philharmoniker at the Easter Festival 2017 from the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden
Antonín Dvorák was once labelled the “Brahms from Bohemia” by his contemporaries and this was not intended as a compliment, but rather almost as an insult actually meaning “sounding somewhat like Brahms, but lacking his quality”. Nowadays, nobody would ever have the idea to tag a label on him, having become a composer in his own right with a degree of appreciation equal to that of Johannes Brahms. Dvorák’s Violin Concerto has become a hallmark composition in this genre – a concert that both soloists and conductors are equally fond of. One of the great advocates of this work is Sir Simon Rattle, who is joined by the wonderful Lisa Batiashvili. The program is complemented by the Slavonic Dances and by Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
