La Traviata
La Traviata starring Placido Domingo, Francesco Meli & Ermonela Jaho from Festival Chorégies d’Orange
After 38 years of absence, Placido Domingo is celebrating a triumphal return to the picturesque setting of the ancient Roman Theatre antique d’Orange, which is offering its breath-taking ambience to Verdi’s “La Traviata” this year. With its sublime cast, Placido Domingo in the role of Giorgio Germont, Francesco Meli as Alfredo and stunning Ermonela Jaho as Violetta Valery this “luxueuse Traviata” (Forum Opéra) at the Chorégies d’Orange Festival made a deep impact: “We have seen many Traviatas, and heard, but this one will rest in our memories” wrote the press. The colourful orchestra under the baton of Daniele Rustioni and the elegant direction of stage director Louis Désiré contributed equally to the success of this outstanding production.
