In 2015, the Kronos Quartet launched a new initiative to promote recently written modern chamber music — Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire — a concept in which the quartet perform ten new pieces each year, during a five-year period.
With one new composer for every piece, the purpose is to renew the exchange for string quartets, as well as reinforce the musical library of students who possess the ambition to become professional musicians.

"Highlighting chamber music along with newly written pieces is an important part of the work Sveriges Television in offering concert recordings. We consider it our mission to promote the music process of the future. Regardless, the Kronos Quartet has a huge fan base in Sweden and the rest of the world. If we were only going to air one string quartet concert this year, it would still be this one", says Ella Petersson, commissioning editor at SVT.

The director of the recording, Anna&Paul & Co’s very own Magnus Ader Berg, was thrilled to be a part of the exciting project: "It’s been a great pleasure to watch a Swedish composer’s original work be put together and performed in Sweden for the first time, by one of the world’s greatest string quartets, the Kronos Quartet."

Kronos Quartet live at Uppsala Konsert & Kongress airs on SVT 2 on September 23.
