Kilden Performing Arts Centre + Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra
IMZ welcomes Kilden Performing Arts Centre and Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra
Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra (Kristiansand Symfoniorkester – KSO), numbering 70 full-time musicians, is one of Norway’s seven professional orchestras. It is housed in Kilden Performing Arts Centre (Kilden teater og konserthus), a building awarded for its innovative, exquisite, and intriguing architecture, and located on the waterfront in the southern city of Kristiansand, Norway.
The orchestra is a young and vital ensemble comprised of musicians from fifteen different nations. The esteemed conductor Giordano Bellincampi took over as Chief Conductor of the KSO in 2013. His predecessors include renowned Norwegian conductors Terje Boye Hansen and Rolf Gupta.
KILDEN is unique in Scandinavia, with its fusion of the region’s symphony orchestra, theater and opera, all in one organisation. Following the grand opening in 2012, this fusion has made possible a multitude of joint projects with the KSO, such as opera, musicals, and collaborative projects with Kilden’s outreach program, Kilden Dialogue.
Kilden has established its own AV-production of sound and visuals, producing records and both radio and TV-recordings in collaboration with Norway’s national broadcaster, NRK, and others.
