The lead songwriter for Soft Machine, turned composer of classical music, is probably one of the most performed of our time. Born to a Welsh teacher, organist and choirmaster and a Swedish mother, he got his first piano lessons from his father. Organ playing and the singing congregation marked him for life. No wonder that his best- known compositions would be heavily influenced by church music. His break- through came with his Ademus project, which evolved from a song for Delta Airlines. His greatest success to date is his oratorio The Armed Man which has had an incredible 3000 performances world-wide.
Hefin Owen's portrait features material from the composer's time with Soft Machine, award winning music for advertising campaigns, concertos and clips from his two famous oratorios The Armed Man andOne World. Music critic Norman Lebrecht gets to the point in saying: “What Karl Jenkins does in his music, he delivers, he gives you what you want but you don't have to go out for it, you don't have to fight for it, you don't have to struggle with it…”
A Rondo Production, shot in HD with a running time of 59 minutes.
